Last night I had trouble falling asleep merely due to the unfamiliarity with staying a cabin with open windows and no AC. The constant insect sounds were very annoying at first, but soon grew on me as I became closer with mother nature. Long story short, I slept like a baby and had an abundant amount of energy the following day.
Today, we met our instructors and were given an overview of our trip. After this briefing, we made shark hats with paper plates, ate lunch, then talked about how to identify the many different species of fish found here in the British Virgin Islands. To practice identifying, we played a game in which an individual guessed a type of fish that was behind them by asking yes or no questions to the rest the students. Very fun. After our study session, we were spilt into our boat crews and were introduced to our boats. Shortly after, we assembled our scuba gear, briefed on our dive, and made a quick scuba tour of the dog islands. We saw many of the fish we learned about earlier and scuba’d through many unique rock formations. After our dive, we went back to the island and went to mass in a small church on top of a large hill. After this, we changed and went to a beautiful lasagna dinner on the beach followed by a very physical game of ultimate frisbee. I am extremely looking forward to the morning dives tomorrow and getting back to the blog.
