Time is ticking by and today, the third class, marked the half of the week! What was taught today was more of a background on the earth. We learned about the origin of life( how it is said life could of originated in water), layers of the earth, techtonic plates and their effects, and much more about earths structure! Over all what grasped my attention the most was that the earthquakes that can plague our earth with brutal disaster are more common then we think! When Mr. Kirby said that scientists can often measure these earthquakes before they hit and their magnitude it got me thinking.. So i did this -> http://lmgtfy.com/?q=earthquake <- I never knew they were that common.
We than went over the continental drift theory, which states that before the world was split into 7 continents it was all a whole called Pangea. Along with is there was one massive ocean called "Pangrassa."
Overall, I think that all we learned about earths structure was very fascinating. It ties in with Marine Biology: 1. Subduction is causing alot of damage because shrinking oceans and shifting plates can not only cause damage to our civilization but the aquatic life. 2. The more we study about our earth the more we get closer to answering its questions, one of these is the Ocean. Since little is known about the depths studying the layers of the esrth might give us some answers. 3. Finally, the theory of life coming from water seems very convincing since at one point the proper nutrients for life on the barren recent volcanicly formed land were scarce that the ocean might have been more fruitful than land causing life to eventually develop and form.
