BVI Day 4

1

The fourth day at the BVI was a lot of fun. It was different than the other days we had experienced. We didn’t meet up for breakfast at the Olde Yard but this time we met at the docking station beside the boats. We had breakfast near there and set off for a two tank dive that was planned. The location we dove at was called The Rhome which was once a transport ship that had sunk due to unbearable weather conditions. The 2 dives were categorized with the two parts of the ship that still remained over time. One was the stern of the ship and the other was the bow. The amazing part of the dives were the coral that grew from the remains of the ship, the amount of marine life that sustain itself on the ship was an ideal way of how artificial reefs in some way help the marine ecosystems. After the two tank dives we headed out for a wonderful place called Cooper Island. There we had lunch near the beach and had a good snorkel there as well. Before the snorkel we had a lecture and demonstration of how the manager of Cooper Island conserves it energy and water system, through the recycling of dirty water and also by the usage of solar panels. Throughout the snorkel we encountered many sea life that consisted of sea turtles, sting ray, and squirrel fish. The most interesting part was when I followed the turtle around as it looked for sea grass to eat, it was a great experience. After our snorkel we went back to the cabins to get ready for dinner at Maddogs again.Casey gave a presentation about staghorn and elkcorn coral and the plan for planting them of the reef to provide the ocean with a new and health Jesuit reef.
