DAY 2 BVI

0

Today, we tagged turtles. It was a great experience starting with a in depth and worthwhile presentation by Joel Dore who is the head of the turtle conservational effort in the BVI. We learned a lot about the different types of turtles: leatherback, green sea turtles, loggerhead, and the most common, hawksbilled turtles. A short boat ride took us to Little Dix Bay where we then proceeded to snorkel and look for turtles across the entire bay. I went out a little to far with my buddy alex and I had a very long swim against the wind back to the boat. After what seemed like 30 minutes of swimming I was right next to the boat where I noticed a barracuda chillin’ underneath the boat. Or as Mr. Nevitt, our chaperone and Jesuit Spanish teacher would say, una pesca grande debajo de la barca. I climbed abroad the Sea Dragon and found a juvenile turtle aboard waiting to be tagged. The tagging process was very interesting and required a lot of precision. We named the turtle Sammy and sent him off to migrate across the world. this adventure ended with a satisfying lunch at the rendezvous bar at the marina. Then Glenn, our taxi driver, took us back to the resort where everyone played with the frisbee I brought until it was time to head to the baths. The bath our indescribable. They were formed over millions of years and were used To. The slaves hundred of years ago. After a great tour of the baths, we snorkeled back tot the resort. In the way, I found a flounder, 2 sea turtles and a hermit crab that probably weighed about 10 lbs. All of this was followed by another great dinner at Mad Dog restaurant. Tomorrow we will be identifying fish and night snorkeling so look forward to tomorrows post because it will be filled with adventure!
