Day Five in Virgin Gorda

1

Although we didn’t scuba dive today, it was just as fun and exciting. We began our day with a fulfilling morning of service in which we painted a wall and planted palm trees. It was hard work, and it was hot outside, but seeing the fully painted wall and newly planted trees was extremely satisfying and personally rewarding. After the morning of hard work, we walked to our favorite hang out spot, Mad Dogs, for a relaxing lunch. Then we went to a place called the Baths. The Baths are one of the best tourists spots on the BVI. Volcanic activity has formed huge formations of granite boulders that have then formed caves and tidal pools. We ventured through the incredible pathways, took some photos at the most photographed location on the BVI, and hung out in the beautiful tidal pools. When we finished exploring the baths, we snorkeled back to our resort beach. While snorkeling and maneuvering through and around the underwater granite formations, I saw a sting ray and a baby hawksbill sea turtle. Upon arriving to our beach, we met several members of Dive BVI for a beach barbecue. We relaxed and ate delicious food while watching the beautiful sun set. When the sun went down and it was dark out, we went out for a night snorkel, one of the coolest experiences I have had on the island. Maneuvering through the dark water with a flashlight was very calming. We saw a squid eating a fish, a huge tarpon, black sea urchins, and finally an octopus! Although the octopus was smaller than my hand, it was still really cool looking. We finished the snorkel, and I floated on my back while gazing at the thousands of stars in the night sky. It was an amazing experience and an amazing day. I am truly thankful and blessed for being able to have gone on this incredible trip.
