Dr. Gruninger and I are actively organizing the curriculum for the upcoming class. Our goal is to prepare the students for their diving and research experiences in the Virgin Islands and beyond. The course will be considered successful if it begins the process of forming informed thinkers who foster an appreciation for the environment. Everything is designed to be project-based – the learning will be driven by the students.
One of the most exciting additions to the course is a tool: the iPad. Every student will be entrusted with an iPad for the duration of the course. This will allow him to take notes, submit assignments, add blog posts, and more. It will also provide opportunities for students to research during lessons and participate in collaborative activities. Several applications will be provided for the students to facilitate their experience. Stay tuned for their feedback on the device and how it impacts their learning and classroom participation. In addition to iPads, students will be working with digital cameras, laptops, and Vernier LabQuests.
