In class we went over 4 different articles; group c, d , e, and f’s

From group C’s article I learned that ecotourism is an extremely effective method of bettering knowledge and attitudes towards endangered species. I assumed that because they increased a particpants awareness of the issue it did not necessarily motivate them to fix it.

From group D’s article I learned that the most influential vector for the transportation of invasive marine species is a ships bilge or ballast water. Also, that as officials find solution for this problem they overlook all other remaining issues which allow the transference of invasive marine species which threaten biodiversity.

I found group E’s article especially interesting because it concerned activities which we would be partaking in on our excursion to the BVI. It presented alot of interesting data concerning the rehabilitation of reef biomes using artificial ‘coral’ versus transplanted coral, which showed that artificial coral is a significantly more succesful method of reef rehabilitation

Group F’s article was a bit of a stretch ,however, it may be this stretch which made the data rather profound. Even though the articles composers did need to assume alot of logistics and values to accumulate the data they needed, they were still able to produce very convincing data regarding the correlation between oil spills and seabird mortality. This then allowed the class to assume that the seabirds(especially of the test region) are a very good indicator of undocumented oil spills due to their location on the water and floating nature of the species carcasses which allows for easy documentation.
