In marine biology class today 4 groups presented and discussed over their issued articles. The four topics were Ecotoursim, Artificial reefs, Chronic oil spills, and Invasive species. For Ecotoursim, there were negative and positive effects of it. For the positive side, Ecotoursim informed many about the danger that the ecosytem and brings out awareness to those that are aren’t informed of it. But in contrast the side effect of ecotoursim was the fact that the tourist acted with intention of helping but forgot their goal and purpose and left the ecosystem with an empty promise by returning iin their old way of damaging and destroying the ecosytems.
The next topic that was discussed was about artificial reefs and their impact to the marine ecosytems. The interesting thing that i learned was that people who are involved creating artificial reefs used tires to establish the foundation to many fish while the corals have time to develop over time. This is due to the fact that artificial reefs attract more fish than those that are non man made reefs, thus creating home to many other fish that are in seek for a new home.
Chronic oil spills in the next topic that was covered and the problem is litteraly stated which is the oil spills in the ocean. Now there are two types of oil spills, one is the regular oil spills that you hear about and the other are the chronic oil spills that occur frequently and they are not getting the attentioned needed to relief this problem. This problem is largely affecting the marine life in infecting the waters and killing off birds such as seagulls.
The last topic was the invasive species. In this article I learned that lion fish have a greater impact to the smaller fish in the ocean as well the impact it has to us humans. Lionfish are brought to the food chain that cause an unbalance to the fish and the ecosystems, this disrrupts the corals enviorment and wipes out many different fish species in that area. As humans we have an option in saving those species that are endangered and at the peak to unexistence. One that would be dimishing the population of lionsfish and restoring the balance that the marine life that the ecosystems affected by lionfish once had.
