In the first article that we went over today, we learned that ecotourism does in fact create awareness, but it does not help the conservation efforts. Ecotourism does little to conserve and some would say that the negatives outweigh the positives. In the second article, we discussed the effects of invasive fish species, like how they can destroy a reef because they will eat the small, important fish that help the reef to stay at its full health. We also discussed ways to get rid of the invasive species, like making a product out of the species so fisherman will want to catch them more. In the third article discussed, we talked about the bird mortality rate after oil spills. We learned that every year 315,000 thick-billed birds die from chronic oil spills. The last article was about artificial reefs versus natural reefs. We learned that artificial reefs are just as good if not as good as natural reefs in terms of number of fish living there.
