Day Fifteen

Today was full of events including two dives, a lunch at Cooper Island, and also snorkeling. We started up waking a little earlier than usual to be able to fit in everything for the day. After the taxi picked us up, we went straight to the marina where we had a quick breakfast and then began our first dive. This dive was at the sight of the shipwreck of the Rhone. There was a lot to see including various parts of the ship and also fish that swim around them. The only thing that made this dive a little difficult was a strong current, but it was still enjoyable. After we finished this dive, we went back up to rest and prepare for our second dive. It was nice to take a breather and recover after the tough dive. Then, we left for the site of the second dive, which was Chromis Reef. I really liked this dive because we saw a lot of fish, and I didn’t have much trouble staying buoyant. When we got back up, we all dried off and went to Cooper Island for lunch. Lunch consisted of fish and fries, and once finished, we got on the boats to head out a little over to snorkel. Snorkeling was really relaxing and was also full of sting ray sightings. We also got some good pictures free diving to the bottom. As we were on the boat almost ready to leave, there was a lionfish spotting. The lionfish was collected and brought up to one of the boats. At the marina, we examined the lionfish especially its poisonous spines. Next, we went back to the resort, cleaned off, and made our way to Mad Dog’s for dinner. It was Mexican night, and we enjoyed nachos and quesadillas. We also took a lot of pictures with the sunset. Today was packed, and I am looking forward to tomorrow’s dive with the transects and fish indentification.
