Our first two days on the island have been incredible. Although I would love to give the credit and thanks for this amazing time we are having to myself, the real credit goes to the Dive BVI staff, Casey, Sam, Andrew, and Jeff. They have done an incredible job in planning our activities and meals. The guys are really enjoying learning from them. I have been especially impressed with their attention to details and safety of the guys. Dive BVI has created an amazing experience, giving them hands-on exposure to marine life and diving techniques, the freedom to explore this incredible area, and ensuring a level of safety that the guys’ parents (and teachers) would be very appreciative of. Big shout out to Dive BVI…
The guys have been great, too. There has been some who have shed a few tears for various reasons, including being homesick, a little sea-sick, having to be the last group to eat lunch, not getting to go free climbing on rocks, waking up to me banging at their door, having a sore leg, foot, or toe, and coming to the realization that they may never again have a chance to spend a full week with me again in their lives…
Seriously, though, we have a great bunch of guys, and they have already been complimented numerous times by the staff here. I have heard all of the dive instructors comment on the boys diving skills, their ability to follow instruction, and their quick learning curve. I am very appreciative and proud of their behavior, work ethic, and cooperation thus far on this trip. I am having a great time learning with them…
One of the more interesting things I learned today was the ability of parrot fish females to change into males. I wonder if this is the only way males are generated in this species…which sex came first???
Doc
p.s. I actually saw a barracuda for the first time up close today!
