We’re finally here! After much anticipation, we arrived at the Virgin Gorda airport last night and checked in to our hotel last night (the Guava Berry Resort). We couldn’t do much when we arrived since it was storming but the following morning was filled with activities. Today we took a refresher dive to determine the number of weights we needed and to see how well we could manage in a salt water environment. I saw an assortment of marine animals including fire coral, anenomes, and a hermit crab. Aside from the difficulty with the uneven distribution of my weights, the fact that I forgot my booties, and the poor visibility of the water which prevented me from taking pictures (plus the burning sensation of inhaling, swallowing, and being blinded by saltwater), I had a good time.
The staff of Dive BVI introduced themselves that morning after breakfast and we discussed the agenda for the week, the history of the British Virgin Islands, and hot topics regarding the reef such as the lionfish invasions. We were also divided into the two groups: the Sea Monkeys and the Sea Dragons. I was placed in Sea Monkeys (not surprisingly).
Tomorrow we’ll go diving and snorkeling. Hopefully the visibility will be clear enough so that I can take photos (which I plan to take plenty of). Now is probably the time I should be looking for my rash guard…
But until then, Happy Fourth of July to everyone back home!
