Day 1

After two brief flights we arrived in the Grand Cayman, When we arrived to the Cobalt Coast Resort we were given the immediate opportunity to snorkel right off the dock that extended from the resort well into the water. The water was much warmer than I had even anticipated and swimming in such warm water was a completely new experience for me that made the initial snorkel a lot of fun. My buddy, Lee Ochs, and I decided to head with the current as we swam from the dock. The first thing I noticed was the abundance of a leaf like corral that blanketed the floor of the waters ne’er the dock. Next to these leafy corral tended to be rocky outcrops where my buddy and I noticed our first find, an extremely large sea urchin, only a bit smaller than a soccer ball. From then we traveled further out and saw many of the fish we had learned about in class such as the four eyed and banded butterfly fish, French and gray angelfish and the blue headed wrasse. When my buddy began to head back to the dock we noticed many more schools of angelfish as well as a redband parrotfish. When are snorkel had finished we had a delicious dinner and then most of the class headed out to the dock to watch the sunset. a moment that stood out for me occurred as the class was walking back to our rooms form the dock when Matthew noticed an eel swimming in one of the tide pools near the shore just as soon as the tide brought the eel in it had returned the eel back out to sea before the rest of the class could see it, overall the day has gone by really quick but in the brief time snorkeling I had a lot of fun so I can’t wait for the rest of the week.
