As I arrived at the resort from my previous family vacation down the road in the Caymans, I noticed the magnificent view of the horizon from the dock. Eager to explore, I started my snorkel with Michael Curry. When I climbed off the ladder at the end of the dock, I immediately recognized several fish that we went over in class: Foureye butterfly fish, Blue tang, Blue-headed wrasse, terminal princess parrotfish, and a group of French grunts. When we approached on the boats anchored about 60ft from the end of the dock, we came upon a shoal of Caribbean Reef Squid. There were about 15 translucent squid that were chilling in a divot in the sandy sea floor. Upon attempting further examination by nearing closer to the shoal, they quickly darted off into the distance. It was remarkable by which the squid were able to travel using their fins on either side of their head. It was mesmerizing to witness the amount of sea life from the sea fans to the numerous tropical fish and the several long-spined sea urchins we saw.
After our snorkel we sat down to dinner and I quickly devoured soup, salad, steak, penne pasta with shrimp, as well as both delicious deserts. The boys sat on the edge of the dock to watch the beautiful sunset. We finished the day with a quick debrief on the upcoming days.
