Today started similar to the other days previously this week, however, today I found it extra tempting to fall back asleep and skip the morning dives. Despite the temptation, I dragged myself to breakfast at 7 and then departed for the two morning dives. The weather this morning was relatively calm and that brought with it a very nice laid back environment for our dives. With this laid back environment, my partner Alex and I were really maintain our focus on the surrounding marine life and environment. With this focus, we were able to see what I felt was the most diverse group of animals thus far. We saw animals such as lionfish, pufferfish, moray eels, juvenile drum fish , and garden eels. These two dives were some of my favorite simply because of this animal diversity. After our two morning dives, we headed back to the resort for lunch and some chill/down time. After this nice break, we headed back out to our second attempt at stingray city. We headed out on a 40 minute boat ride to a sand bar in the bay of Grand Cayman. An interesting fact about Grand Cayman is that there are two stingray cities. Our dive masters brought us to the less crowded one and it turned out to be an amazing decision. We headed into the water and stood on our knees as we awaited the tens of stingrays circle around us. This experience was incredible as we were able to physically touch and look at the stingrays from a close up perspective. We were able to do this because we made sure to respect the animals and we understood our abilities to hurt them. All in all today was another great day and I am excited to experience the shipwreck dive tomorrow and hopefully participate in a beach cleanup effort.
