Day 10

0

We started class today by talking about the schedule of our trip to the BVI and the expectations during it. Then we talked about leaping blennies. In its self I did not find the information in the article particlarly interesting; however, the discussion about evolution that stemmed from it was. We talked about evolution and how humans might have evolved from the leaping blenny, since all life stems from the ocean and the blenny is a cross over between marine and terrestrial organisms. After talking about this a while we decided that humans did not evolve from leaping blennies and that the blenny is just a modern day example of an organism adapting to life on land. We also decided that although apes may be the ancestors of humans we have evolved differently or divergently, so in like a million years or however long, all apes will not develop into humans.

We then talked about lionfish again in the second article. This article basically said that the eastern sea board of the U.S. is the perfect habitat for lionfish and this is why the lionfish are so invasive. This article diverged from all the other lionfish articles because it proposed that lionfish will have a minimal effect on then environment they now inhabit.

Finally we finished some notes with group presentations and that concluded our last day of class.
