Kona: Day 5

0

This morning we got to sleep in and then tour some different fish farms by NELHA. We learned how efficient and important fish farms are to the world. We learned that a lot of people in the world rely on some type of seafood as their only food to eat. With a growing population that will increase by around 2 billion in the next 30 years, there are only so many ways we can feed them. The idea of fish farming can be the answer to the growing food needs in the world. After visiting the fish farms half of the group went for a submarine ride (I was in this group) while the other group went back to the homes to relax for a few hours. After diving down to 100 ft in the submarine, we traveled to a semi-hidden fresh water cave to explore a little bit. I soon discovered that the water in the cave was about a solid 50 degrees. After swimming around and exploring the cave for a little bit with flashlights we got out and walked to a stone beach to snorkel for a little while and warm up. We then took pictures with the sunset and made our way back to the homes. The second group got to go blackwater diving while we relaxed for the rest of the night. Overall, I’d say that today was a fulfilling day and I am looking forward to cleaning up a beach tomorrow and hiking in a valley.
