Starting off the day, we visited NALHA to learn about renewable energy and other programs helping the environment. After the brief presentation about OTEC and how it works, we were able to visit an actual OTEC facility which generates 100 kilawatts of energy. Then we traveled to the munk seal rehabilitation facility where they monitor and help the seals recover and become independent. Their level of attention to everything done for the seals surprised me as they monitor every aspect of the seals life. From the food they eat food to their health, everything must constantly be up to par. Afterwards, we embarked a hike down from the top of a valley to sea level where we would be greeted by a black sand beach and scenic views. The hike didn’t prove to be as much of a challenge as expected and we shattered the average time of 45 minutes with a 17 minute climb. Then we headed back in our group and stopped at a fruit stand with an array of fresh fruit. After all of the activities today, I am still looking forward to the black water dives as I have been told it is like another planet. Hopefully the statement accurately depicts the dive as I cannot wait.
