After a long and exhausting day of travel, we arrived at “Homes over Kona,” our humble abodes for the next seven days. Rather quickly, my classmates and I accustomed ourselves to the individual “hales” (homes) that well be staying in. Shortly after we unpacked and ate dinner, we received an orientation from the lovely staff about expectations and what the week entails. As a result of this, I am most looking forward to the Mauna Kea summit hike. Although I’m a little ashamed to admit this, I have never been on a major hike before in my life. Hiking to the top of this mountain will surely provide a unique experience for me and I hope to learn much about the summit. Fortunately, my group will be making the hike tomorrow, so I don’t have to wait very long to enjoy this moment.
