Day 8 – Taking a Bite out of a Dogfish upon our Perch

Today’s article discussion was over two very interesting articles, one over unique marine adaptations and another over the effect of ecotourism on Great White Sharks. The first article was interesting because it showed that evolution plays a key in the survival of organisms. The second was also interesting because it addressed a controversial topic. Many people argue that ecotourism in general is a bad thing, mainly because it negatively alter’s the fish’s behavior. However the article said that ecotourism only moderately affected the shark’s behavior. There were several variables in the experiment that limited the conclusion to the specific area in which the research was done. However, this article lays the groundwork for further research which can one day help us decide if ecotourism is either a bad or a good thing.

After the discussion, we completed our dissection of the perch, an extremely interesting fish which is a prime example of basic bony fish anatomy. After, we began our dissection of a shark, which we will continue tomorrow.
