Good Morning

Waking up at 5:30 from the sun was a little unusual. At first my group thought we were late for the agreed upon 7:00 breakfast time but quickly realized we were up waaay too early. The rest of my group went to sleep but I decided to go ahead and get ready.

Breakfast

Breakfast consisted of eggs, cereal, honey buns, and fig newtons. Mr. Von cooked us some eggs as a treat for the first day. I took some eggs and a honeybun with a cup of juice. Thankfully I had a great chaperone and Ms. Matthews gave me some Dramamine so the ride to our first dive site was no big deal.

Diving

For our check-out dive in order to see if we were all ready, one of the requirements was to remove our mask. One of the kids in our group went to take their mask off but their head strap snapped off. He ended up opening his eyes underwater in order to find out what's happening. Luckily our dive master helped him and fixed his mask. For the rest of the dive we identified fish and my dive buddy was even able to spot a spotted moray eel hidden between the coral.
Our next dive site had a crashed plane next to an island called dog island. The name comes from explorers who were too scared to get on the island due to the barking they assumed were dogs but were actually monk seals. On the dive we encountered barracuda, eel, and even a sea turtle. We swam through the fuselage of the plane and for some reason the water was a lot colder. This dive site we also saw cleaning stations where fish go to get cleaned from parasites by other fish. This is relevant to our project so I paid a little extra attention to where they were located in relation to the ecosystem and how the cleaning fish reacted to our presence.
