Catchin’ Chad

1

Today I woke up the most tired of all days so far. My cabin walked to the meeting place at the cattle guard to be eventually told to go back and lock our cabana, because Mr. Kirby did a surprise check on our cabana and saw we left our doors unlocked. After everyone did that we went to the commissary for breakfast, where we also had a slide show presentation about sea turtles that Dr. Gore presented to us. We learned about the common turtles in this area which are green sea turtles, hawks bill sea turtles, and leatherback sea turtles. After that we split up into two groups, and my group went to snorkel at Savanna Beach, while the other group went to go tag sea turtles. We would both do our own activities until lunch then swap. During our snorkel we focused on finding and IDing echinoderms. After we finished snorkeling we had some beach time to hang out and do whatever. I took this time to sleep. After that we went to the marina to meet up with the other group coming back from the turtle tagging, for lunch. They were not successful at all because they are not capable of doing things like that. After a delis he’s lunch of burgers and fries it was finally our turn to do the sea turtle tagging. After about thirty minutes of searching we had spotted around three turtles, and we were on the chase. We went after them for an hour before one of the instructors, Mem, was able to wrestle one out of the water. It was a big hawksbill turtle. After we all took pictures with the turtle. We got the measurements of it, and I got to measure the tail. Then we gave it the name chad, tagged it, and released it back into the wild. After that we looked for more turtles with no luck on catching anymore. Then we went back to brag about our good news, and fill up on some delicious lasagna at Mad Dog’s. Today was a day full of new experiences.
