Day 4 Sherer: Currents and Wrecks

0

After my group’s project last night, we decided to play a game of monopoly. Xander monopolized all the properties by the jail, Jack monopolized the blues and the reds, and I monopolized the railroads and the yellows. All was going well until, Jack went bankrupt to Xander, effectively giving Xander a full monopoly. Resistance was futile, and soon after I bid my beautiful Marvin Gardens goodby, I went bankrupt. I then had an amazing night of sleep, and had to wake up for breakfast. We once again had our normal breakfast, but this time we had honey buns! We then had to head over to the boat and set up our equipment again, and before we got on, I learned how dock a ship. Our first stop was Wreck Alley. Here we saw two ships at a depth of 90 feet. One was a tugboat, and the other was another overturned ship. We saw a huge Southern Stingray, hogfish, snapper, tarpon, and Jeff even got another lionfish with his gun. We even got to swim under the deck of the upside down ship! We could see our air bubbles hit the deck of the ship and float up! We then ascended and I almost was out of air, so Jeff told me to ascend during the safety stop. We then had a cool 45 minute rest interval while Jeff gave us more of his life lessons. Life lesson 87 was to avoid the sharp horns of the horned buttfish (snorkelers) and life lesson 87-a was to not run with scissors. We then descend to our second stop at cistern point. According to Jeff, we swam against an 87 knot current (don’t doubt the infinite wisdom of Jeff, the man who can fly…on a plane) to a sunken cistern. The reef was probably the best I have ever seen. We saw a huge school schoolmasters, many barracudas, a whopping 34 tarpon, French Angelfish, and many rays. We then ascended and went to lunch on the beach. After lunch, we had free time, so Xander, Jack, John, Henry, and I decided to just jump in the ocean and skip rocks. We even got to play with the owner’s dog for a while. We then had the cabin games. We naturally decided to name our selves team Golab. After failing miserably in the night snorkel and water balloon dodgeball, we got second in bot the relay and pictionary. It’s not being last if your tied for third, unless you’re playing by Jeff’s rules. We then went to a five thirty mass in a small chapel on top of the island. Mass was great, and the view coming down from the hill was amazing. After that, we had dinner on top of the Baths, and we were treated to an amazing fire dancing show. Tomorrow we will go see the wreck of the Rhone. I look forward to that and continuing our experiment tomorrow.
