Many things affect the study of marine biologist one big factor is light. Light determines the where the organism in the ocean live and also in some cases the concerntrations of the organisms. For example almsot all of the photosythetic organisms in the ocean will live in the top 1000 feet because the light needed for most photosythetic organism does not travel deeper than 1000 feet. Also since photosythetic organism are typically the bottom of the food chain and provide energy for the rest of the food chain many predators, although able to swim deeper will come into this photic zone to feed on the plants or on the animals which feed on the plants. Animals however do live and go beyond this 1000 foot mark however, they usually have special adapations like bioluminescence, are able to utilize the blue lights which can travel deeper into the ocean, or have other adaptations for orientation like echo location.

Another factor which affects marine biologists are algal blooms which occur when there is a massive increase of the amount of photoplankton in an area. This is usually caused by excessive nutrients running of into the ocean like fertilizers. These algal blooms deplete the surrounding water of oxygen, and delapidate the effectiveness of fish’s lungs, suffocating them; however they also can poison shell fish which leads to illness or death in not only shellfish but also any other preador which eats them, affecting humans and many other marine organisms. In the ocean light plays a profound role in the actions which occur in the ocean helping to determine when, how a marine biologist will conduct research.
