Today we all walked into class obviously eagar to learn, but this time our mental readiness came in better handy as we got through all of what we expected to do, with a little left over for tomorrow. However unexpectedly, the day began with sheets in front of all of us asking us to break down our knowledge of what we read from the articles. To my demise, I did not read the first article thoroughly enough, and consequently, I was delayed and did not fill out much of anything. With this over, the class switched back to normal and we started orally discussing the two articles. Rob and Nick talked about the effect and evolution of the mimic octopus. Following them were Harrison and David taking about the effects of eco tourism and the behavior of the great white sharks. These articles were again very interesting; I really love how the octupus can drastically alter everything about itself to almost completely mirror the other animals and things around it and how that can change the predator/prey balance in the ocean. I also liked how Harrison led the discussion and made his points to us, which started a very intelligent discussion about the sharks’ behavior. Then as expected we went into the lab to dissect the perch fish and the dogshark. These were a lot more messy than the first round but I would say much more fascinating to cut open, as they both had more defined internal structures and were injected with latex so you could see all of their viens and arteries. Again, very intriguing day.
