BVI Day 1

Today was my first official dive in the British Virgin Islands. We explored a large collection of coral reefs near the Dog Islands. Our dive instructors told us about how many of the natives thought the island was filled with rabid dogs. Upon further exploration however, the island was found to be a habitat for Monk Seals. Sadly, these mammals went extinct in the 1950’s. While diving, we saw a large variety of coral. I even accidentally touched some fire coral! While diving. Our instructor pointed out various species of aquatic fish. We saw a few baracuda and a school of wrasse. My group also saw a Hawksbill turtle and a small nurse shark. After the dives, we went to mass at 5:30 and then did research for our projects.
