Our last day in BVI we woke up at a normal time to go have breakfast at the teacher’s cabin again. After breakfast we took a taxi down to a beach that was in much need of a good clean up. We spent the next hour and half walking up and down the rocky shore, looking for anything we could fit in our trash bags. There’s was anything from fishing net, to bottles, to boat batteries, to even a full size oil barrel that was empty. We loaded the garbage onto Casey’s truck and then a few volunteers, including myself, rode with Casey to the island’s dump. This dump was simply a piece of land on the mountain that was all cleared for trash to be burned there. We offloaded all the garbage and began our descent back to the beach where a small rain shower was approaching. After the cleanup we headed back to the marina for our last meal there: a lunch of burgers and fries. That afternoon we were allowed a good portion of free time to use at the beach, in our cabins, or relaxing in the wifi room. That night we got all dressed up again for our farewell dinner with the dive staff at a restaurant called Mermaid’s, which was on the end of a dock. After dinner we watched a short video recap of the week and gave Casey a Jesuit flag which we had all signed. As dinner ended we all said our last goodbyes to most of the dive staff and took the taxi the back home. That night we packed up all our gear for the long day ahead and headed to bed.

The next started early. A 4:30 alarm woke us up and we quickly got dressed and headed for the cattle guard to meet the rest of the group. We met Andrea, Jeff, and Casey at the dock for the boat ride over and said our last goodbye to Casey, who stayed on Virgin Gorda while Andrea and Jeff sailed us back over to Tortola. There we walked back to the airport and took our short flight over to San Juan. At San Juan we spent our three hour layover eating breakfast at Maragitaville and trying to get comfortable for a short nap in the airport terminal. After the five hour flight we finally landed back in DFW to greet our parents with tired smiles and bad sunburns, looking forward to telling them about our adventures in the British Virgin Islands.
