Double Dive at the Rhone

3

My day began similar to most, however there was no annoying chicken making terrible noises outside of our doors in the morning. Already in a good mood due to undisturbed sleep, I rose out of my bed and grabbed a cup of Andrew’s coffee (this has now become a morning tradition at our house). Me and Jackson had a later start this morning, so we left the house a little late by our standards, arriving at the cattle gate right on time. Laid out right in front of us in the dive office this morning, our breakfast consisted of various cereals, Pop Tarts, and fruits. With the assumption that my mother may in fact be reading these blogs, I ate just two apples, 3 plums, and a nice big glass of water for breakfast, as opposed to two Pop Tarts and Cocoa Krispies. After this bountiful feast we left for the boats, which we loaded the day prior with two tanks for each of us. When heading to the wreck of the Rhone on the Sea Monkey boat, I actually felt nervous and a little sea sick. With deep regret looking back on my mentality, initially I was not excited to depart for a two scuba tank adventure at 80 feet. I guess the thought of being trapped that far down frightened me. That being said, when we arrived at the wreck and went underwater, I was immediately amazed. We saw two groups of squid, as well as the same Hawksbill Sea Turtle three times. Swimming through the ship was also an interesting experience. After surfacing, we quickly grabbed other tanks, attached our BCD’s to them, and went back down again. The highlights of that subsequent dive for me were seeing a barracuda and rubbing the lucky port hole of the ship. After this two tank dive we docked our boat at Cooper’s Island and ate fish and chips at the club there. Marine 1 then stayed back to snorkel and explore the shores near the island. The coolest fish I saw during this venture was a tarpon; I had no idea just how much they really do look like sharks. After this relatively quick snorkel we docked and came back to our rooms as Marine 2 was prepping for our conservation project at the Yacht Harbor. Given the extra free time we had once back at our rooms, me, Jackson, and Zac worked out again. In case anyone is concerned currently, we do in fact have names for our rooms; the main living room is called The Octogon and me and Jackson’s room is named The Gridiron. The jury is still out on what to name the second bedroom. Following our two hours of down time, we had our final meal at Mad Dogz. I will definitely miss the nice old lady that owns it. At least we all got to properly say goodbye to her and we took a picture in front of the bar. After filling out our log books once we finished dinner, we walked back to the cabins, grabbed iPads, and came here to the internet cafe. Like my friend Ice Cube once said, today was a good day.
