Day 1 blog

Today was the very first dive of the trip. When we first got into the water, we reviewed our basic skills to make sure we did not forget them. We did the partially flooded mask, sharing air, and neutral buoyancy. After each person in our group of four completed those things, we were able to explore the reef with the guidance of our instructor. She showed us around the reef and pointed out fish to us and had us identify them. I did not have good buoyancy so while i was writing a fish identification i drifted downwards and my leg hit some fire coral. It stung pretty good for about five minutes and then it was fine. I think the life lesson there is to not only maintain proper buoyancy but also don’t touch anything your not familiar with in the ocean. Besides that i had a pretty good first day and enjoyed my first ocean dive. The ocean was much better than the lake i got certified in for sure. The visibility was at about fourty feet compared to ten feet in the lake so it was a very different but better experience. The coolest thing i saw today was a squirrel fish that was bright red. We saw it from a distance because once we approached it, the fish quickly swam under some coral. I also have to say the food from day one wasn’t bad at all. I was a little bit skeptical because you can never be too sure about food in a forein country. So i am thankful for the good food. I am able to say that i had a good experience the first day and im ready for an adventurous.
