Clayton woke us up at about 6:30– unintentionally he claims. Grumbling, Gavin and I got dressed and all of us headed over to the Plum Tree cabin to see some of our classmates. It was 7:00, so everyone was just waking up and asking us (with a few expletives) why we were awake. At 7:45, the taxi driver Glenn picked up the entire class to take us to breakfast at Old Yarde. At breakfast we had a medley of foods, ranging from fruits, to bagels, to sausages. Afterwards, we were formally introduced to the Dive British Virgin Islands (BVI) crew consisting of Jeff, Casey, Caitlyn, Jeff and Laura. One Jeff (who was easygoing and made lots of jokes) was married to Casey, while the other was married to Caitlin (and has an awesome mustache–will attach picture later). For Marine Biology 1, Caitlin and Jeff (easygoing one) are our instructors for the week. After a 3 hour presentation/classroom time/introduction information from Casey and Laura, we headed out to the docks to get ready for a dive after lunch. At the docks, we were briefed in safety signals and general hand signals as we prepared for the dive and split into Sea Monkey (MB1) and Sea Dragon (MB2). On the boat, we were briefed again, this time on how to attach a BCD to our tanks and how to attach the regulator to tank and BCD. We also reviewed port and starboard side for extra points. After about 20 minutes, we arrived at the site, Valley Trunk Reef. I forgot to charge the GoPro, so I was not able to record any film. We were down about 53 minutes. We saw four eye butterfly fish, blue tangs, angelfish, squirrelfish, cowfish, and yellow headed jaw fish. The bottom was about 40 feet, and visibility was about 40 feet as well. Unfortunately, I was having mask issues, so I used up much more air than I was expecting (3200 to 600). After the dive, we headed back to the docks and eventually back to the huts around 4:45ish. At 6:15, we headed to Mad Dogs, and ate 22 boxes of pizza. A few of us got desert, and afterwards we filled out our log books. After that, we left to grab our iPads from the resort and headed to the office building to write our blogs. Right now, I am exhausted and ready to pass out.
