Day 3

0

Another great day. Although we woke up early, we were not as early as the other cabins because we were actually on time to leave in the taxi. From there we walked down to catch the taxi to go eat breakfast where we were treated with some delicious bacon. After breakfast, Laura taught the group about fish identification where we learned about different types of coral, fish, and invertebrates. We learned how to identify each type of common fish in the BVI, and what they look like. After that we put our newly learned skills into action in Savannah Bay, where we snorkeled around many reefs identifying different organisms. After a solid hour of snorkeling, we were called back to the beach because Casey, Brian, and Laura had caught different organisms for us to look at. Casey then showed us how to identify these organisms in the water, and where to find them. Then we looked up these organisms in a book to find out more information on them. From there we ate lunch on the beach, where I managed to get sand on nearly all my lunch, but I ate it anyway because I was so hungry. After letting the food somewhat settle, we rushed back to the shallow parts of the ocean to play frisbee. This game gets much more intense in the water because diving is much easier. Often times there is a bit of a tustle to get the frisbee suspended in the middle of the playing field. After getting into fights over the frisbee, and doc cherry picking while Tucker and I battle for it, we went to the boats to head out for our dive at the chimney. We climbed aboard the Sea Dragon, and headed out to the Great Dog Island where we jumped in, and immediately saw the gorgeous reefs. After descending we were able to see the real beauty of the reefs, and we began our swim to the chimney. As we began swimming through the chimney we all formed a single file line because the walls covered in colorful organisms. Then we swam through the small exit, and it opened up and we could see sixty feet again. And we began our ascend back to the boat after Jeff got nailed in the head by a tank, and christian’s tank fell out of his bcd. After getting back on the boat we went back to the dock, got on the taxi, walked to our cabins, got back on the taxi, and headed to mass. The church was on the top of a massive hill, where you could see the entire island. After mass we took a group photo with a great background, and headed back to the cabins to go to dinner. At the cabins, we each quickly changed into our swimsuits to get ready for the night cook out, and the night snorkel. At the Guavaberry beach we got our burgers and scarfed down on the delicious food. The night snorkel was next, and we all forced ourselves into tight wet suits in order to avoid the stings of the two jellyfish seen. During the snorkel we saw an OCTOPUS, lobster, many worms, and so many fish, including a big tarpin. From there we returned back to the shore, and ripped ourselves out of the very tight wetsuits, and returned to the cabins to shower. Now here I am writing this while getting eaten alive by the vicious Mosquitos which appear to love the taste of my skin. Today was a great day, and I look forward to tomorrow, which is the wreck dive.
