Day 2

Day 2 at the BVI

As expected, today was a lot of fun. Like yesterday around 7:30 Mr. Kirby came by and woke us up. Then Glen took us to our breakfast place where we practiced our breathing in preparation for our snorkel today. Later a turtle expert named Joel came by to give us on turtle tagging. He also mentioned why is it important to tag a turtle and how it affects us as humans. Thus is why we try to learn about their ; migration patterns, their maturity rate, different types of species, so that can those that are in danger. Plus he explained us the appropriate methods of tagging a turtle. After the interesting talk that Joel gave us we went to Dix bay where we snorkeled looking for turtles, well a group of four went with Joel and the rest stayed away from them but still helping them out as well. After a while of snorkeling I heard a yell from a distance and managed to look up and see who it was and where it was coming from. It came form the boat Glen was on. They were yelling that they had spotted a turtle around where I was and to be alert of it. As I look back down I see the turtle they just mentioned so I did as I was instructed to if I say a turtle which was to raise my hand and to never loose sight of the turtle. And so I did, I started chasing it for a while, while the men from Joel’s crew came by and joined in on the catch. The turtle tired me out as I couldn’t keep up and let the guys of Joel’s crew handle the job. After it was confirmed that they had caught it we went back to the boat to check it out and start tagging it. Joel initiated the tagging by scanning it, and measuring it then he asked for volunteers to actually tag the flippers.

We then had lunch and after lunch we went to a great touristic place called the baths. We walked around really cool facts about the geology of the area that Casey gave us. When we reached the shore of the beach we snorkeled about an hour and fifteen minutes. In the snorkel I shall a lot of species of fish, coral and urchins. I also experimented the sting of a jellyfish, it really wasn’t as bad as I expected just the way it left a rash was the worst part. But other than that it was an unforgettable experience. We had dinner afterwards at Maddogs, at Maddogs we looked at another our project videos. That was another amazing day two the BVI.
