Day 1 – Virgin Gorda

0

Today was great! We got up pretty early but after I took a shower and woke up a little bit, it was not too bad. For breakfast we had sausage, eggs, fruit, and a few juices to choose from. After breakfast we were given a lecture discussing some of the rules and regulations as well as an introduction to marine life in the BVI. We then had a 30-minute break before lunch.

After lunch we split into our dive teams and went over the schedule for the day. Finally we made our way to the dock to prep for our first dive in the BVI. After going through boat safety and putting together our gear we left the dock and began the boat ride to our dive site (Valley Trunk). I immediately noticed how clear the water was and the quick, ten minute boat ride was great. Once at the dive site, we put all of our gear on, completed a buddy check, and entered into the water. My diving instructor, Laura was great and helped me get properly weighted. It was really different being in salt water because there were some pretty strong currents that kept pulling me away from the boat but nothing too bad. The dive went great besides me having trouble equalizing. We went down 54 feet and saw various species of fish and different types of coral. We also saw a southern stingray, which was pretty big.

After the dive we went back to the villas and showered before going to dinner. The café was called “Mad Dogs’ and it was lively atmosphere. We had pizza and played a few games outside before watching a few of the movies my peers made. Overall, the day was awesome and I can’t wait until tomorrow!
