DAY 1 BVI

1

Day 1 in the BVI. So far so great. After a long day of travel including a very interesting experience with customs, a day in the water was very needed. First we got a wake up call from Mr. Kirby and Doc at 8:00. My roommates, Alex Dieste and Caesar Garcia got up immediately while I had to go and wake up my other roommates Andrew Chittoor and Chris Lanyon by pulling their sheets off, much to my displeasure. Then we proceeded to go and eat a breakfast of sausage and bagels. We learned about the entire week it the morning which included the surprise that we would be tagging turtles tomorrow. After the introduction, we ate lunch and headed out to do a checkout dive. During the checkout dive, our leader Jeff used his “harvesting stick” and speared 8 lion fish which are a invasive species on the coral reefs in the Caribbean. The first dive was amazing and I can’t wait to do a dive on an actual dive site in an extremely active environment. For dinner, we went to a shack restaurant called mad dog and it was amazing. They had games hookum’ and corn hole. I was the quickest at hookum’ but couldn’t really judge the wind on corn hole. The videos that we watched from the project were both educational and strangely funny. I love the Trip so far and can’t wait to wake up tomorrow at 6:15 Dallas time.
