Day 3 Blog

Today I am blogging about some of the articles we have read in class. In Group C’s ecotourism article, it was the first time I had ever thought about ecotourism in a negative way. It made me think about how if tourists are not careful, they can cause serious harm to the environment. In group D’s article, I learned about how moving a species from one location to another, such as the lionfish, can have very detrimental effects on the environment. It can upset food chains and create to much competition. In my article (Group E) I learned about how chronic oil spills can be more detrimental to the environment than oil spills that are bigger such as the BP oil spill because they are not as likely to gain media attention and are harder to clean up. Also, I learned that seabirds are a good indicator species that an oil spill has occurred because when oil is in the water, dead seabirds will sometimes wash up on shore. Finally, in Group F’s article, I learned that artificial reefs can be a good alternate to natural reefs. They are also much easier to make than natural reefs.
