Today, I learned about the different topics, which people in my class have done research on. The first group talked about ecotourism, which is touring a natural environment, usually an undisturbed one. Ecotourism can teach those on the tour about the environment, and their animals near extinction, but it can also have negative effects, such as bringing people to the area destroying the nature. The next group talked about marine invasive species, which is not becoming a large problem all over the world because many invasive species are killing many animals native to their environments. This is impact full because if you kill one species, it throws off the entire food chain, and disturbs much of the marine life. The third group explained the impact of oil in the ocean, and how this oil prevents many birds from being able to fly. They explained that chronic oil spills are often overlooked, but they still impact marine species by injuring them, or killing them. The final group explained artificial reefs, and what many types of artificial reefs can be made from, such as sinking tires. These artificial reefs can draw in as many organisms as a natural reef, but it takes a long time for plants to grow on them. All in all, I learned a lot about different areas of the ocean, and how I can make an impact in some of those areas.
