Christmas Tree Worms

0

Over the weekend we each studied ten of twenty common British Virgin Island species as listed in our textbook, among these was the Christmas tree worm. The worm is a tube animal with two large crowns on its back, these crowns have feathery spirals top to bottom displaying beautiful colors, giving the worm its holiday name. Unable to move, the worm sits on coral and relies on these spiral feathers to trap algae as food and put them in the mouth atop the crowns. Measuring in at around ten centimeters long, these worms are attractive and a big interest for scuba divers.
