Reef Check, Baths, Caribbean Dinner, & Dancing

Another great day today! Mr.Kirby and I were able to acquire student volunteers from the esteemed Guavaberry Villa (Dave, Brody, and Hayden) to wake all the other students up on time this morning. I really appreciated them doing that out of the goodness of their heart…

Needless to say, I was able to have a relaxing morning enjoying coffee and the beautiful ocean view from our balcony…

We then headed off to our classroom session where Casey taught the guys about the international effort dedicated to monitoring, conserving, and rehabilitating coral reefs across the world (aka Reef Check). Casey began the guys’ training in Reef Check’s scientific methods, which they will use to collect data on the state of the coral reefs here later in the week. I was really impressed with the knowledge the guys are acquiring and their ability to answer Casey’s questions on coral life and fish identification. Big shout out to Connor Beach for showing his skills in the classroom (and the dance floor later).

After class, we headed down to Savvanah Bay where the guys got some hands on experience identifying and handling some of the marine life that inhabit the bay here, including sea urchins, sea slugs, and spider crabs. We then got to enjoy an awesome snorkeling outing! Good times…

Our last water activity of the day was at a beautiful site called the Baths. Mr. Kirby and I got to rock our tight fitting rash guards. Probably made the guys a little jealous…or awkward.
