Day Thirteen

This morning, we broke routine by taking a day off from diving. Instead, we learned about a transect that we were going to be doing. A transect, in this case, is a 100 meter section of a coral reef that we as a class will be studying. We will be counting the different species of fish and invertebrates in this area of the reef. Also, we will seeing if there are any damaged parts of the coral due to algae, bleaching, or other factors. Later, we went snorkeling and I saw a variety of fish including a trunk fish, several parrotfish, a few four-eyed butterflyfish, and many others. We also toured a place called the baths. The baths are the wondrous boulders that were scattered throughout the island from a volcanic eruption. They landed by an area of the island called the devil’s bay. This was one of my favorite parts of the day, it was beautiful. The following are a couple of pictures I took snorkeling:
