Day Twelve

1

This morning, our second day in the British Virgin Islands, we got to sleep in, but not by much. As we went down to meet up with everyone, it seemed like everybody was waiting on us. Will Schneider, Alec Sellick, and I approached the group and we realized that we were waiting on our friend and brother, Brody McClure. When I asked him why he was late, he began to narrate his morning including little details like his emotions and thoughts at the time including waking up with a puddle in his bed. He said it was a puddle of tears. I was confused and immediately stopped listening. Anyways, we proceeded to go eat breakfast and listen to Sam give us a presentation on coral reefs. We learned what effects them, including temperature and marine life, and how algae grows on the inside of some coral. We also learned how some fish help to protect the reefs, including parrotfish that eat the algae that tries to overtake the coral. We learned that every species plays a roll in the ocean. Next, we listened to Andrew give a presentation on the fish identification, including their physical properties and whether or not they were an endangered species. We learned about angelfish, parrotfish, butterflyfish, snappers, turtles, trumpet fish, and several more. We then proceeded out to our dive site of the coast of Ginger Island. This was the deepest dive I had ever done. It was 60 feet below the surface, and we saw all sorts of creatures including two squids and a barracuda. We also saw damaged stag horn coral, as well as triggerfish and a large grouper. Also, we saw a marking in the sand of where a stingray was. Overall today was absolutely a day to remember.
