Cayman Islands – 7/24

Today after waking up and going to check the equipment we headed out to the boats for the daily two tank dive. Our first site was deep, usually with us between 100 and 60 feet. Because our first dive was so deep on our second dive we stayed at about 60 feet. On both dives we got really lucky and saw a turtle. Both were hawksbill turtles, about 2 feet long with serrated, spiky looking edges to their shells. On the second dive I also saw my first two lobsters in cayman. They usually hang in holes of rocks and corals. The first lobster I saw was under some rocks a sandy patch waiting for prey and the second one I saw was lurking deep in a hole in the coral wall. It is easy to spot them because of their long antennae sticking out of the holes. After we got back I caught up on some sleep after lunch and after dinner I went down to the iron shore and found some big hermit crabs. Hopefully after sleeping today I will be more alert on the dives to spot cooler and smaller details and animals.
