On day 3 of our Caribbean adventure, our first tank dive took us to Bonnie’s Arch where we descended into the water and we were met with a beautiful reef wall. We made our way through an arch covered in beautiful reef with the bright sun highlighting the coral. Gregory and I inspected each nook to find hidden treasure and suddenly our dive master Lucy pointed out a creepy Moray Eel with an elongated snout and threatening eyes. She used a red spotlight to draw the eel out and we were able to see the honeycomb color. As we moved on, I pointed out to my partner the large beautiful Red Snapper elevating above a small patch of sand. This Snapper was identifiable by its red back and a softer, white belly. Second dive, we visited the site called Schoolhouse which was located right outside of the resort. At the site, we were able to see many schools of fish. After lunch, we headed to the Sea Turtle Conservation Center where we went straight to the Turtle Lagoon where visitors were able to swim with turtles and other fish. Next, we did a quick walk through of a bird cage and moved on to the predator tank where visitors were able to look at fish including Tarpon, Barracuda, Turtles, and Nurse Sharks. We traveled to the touch tanks were we were able to hold smaller Green Turtles. Finally, we walked past a large Crocodile and looked a mature Green Turtles and Kemp Ridley Turtles. Pre-dinner, the group discussed our plans for tomorrow and debated over whether or not Stringray City is Ecotourism or Overtourism. After both arguments, we discussed the pros and cons for each and offered solutions. We ate dinner and at around 8:00 P.M. we grabbed some flash lights and headed into the water for a night snorkel. We dove in and searched the black ocean for hints of movement. At first, we were not able to find anything, but suddenly a lemon ray appeared. This Lemon Ray was small and had a yellow, spotted texture. As we made our way back a huge tarpon was spotted. This tarpon started following us in search for food. Although Greg and I’s light went out, the night snorkel was still fun to search the sea for movement. I am super excited to visit Stingray City tomorrow!!!
