Hawaii Day 3

  • Today we woke up at 6:30 to bagels and cereal. After eating, we went to our houses to pack for the upcoming dive. I made sure to pack my snorkel, mask, and fins. We crammed into our two vans and went to the docks. When we got to the docks we lugged our things to the boat and we were off. We had two dives one at Suck em Up and Kaloko National Park. On both dives, I saw tons of interesting fish and coral. At Kaloko, a lava flow in the 1800s dried and makes multiple canyon-like areas which each have unique life such as toad fish and wire coral. After our two dives we went back to the monk seal conservation center. We observed the behavior of a monk seal named sole, 1 of only 5 monk seals on the big Hawaiian Island. We went back to NELHA and learned about the black water dive we will do later. A photographer named Josh Lambus told us about the life we might see at night. We might see
  • Pyrosomes
  • Siphonophores
  • Box jellyfish

After learning about the black water dive, we went home to eat dinner and rest.
